XCOM 2011
When I first heard that XCom was being remade, I was thinking, finally someone has done the obvious and remade this classic squad tactical game from the 90s
Then I heard it was being remade as a FPS, WTF!!!!!!!!!
Thats like remaking Sim city as a FPS, WTF were they thinking, well know we can see, check out this interview with the developers.
Pay close attention the the developer dodging all the questions life er, will there be a base?, no psyionics, no tactical combat of any kind it seems.
The only question, now is how bad will it be?, is this the next Duke Nukem Forever?
Note: Btw Angry Joe is doing the interview, he is a genius, not pandering at all, the world needs more interviews like this, awesome
This developer guy is a complete retard, there is no hope
The origional XCom premise was a hostile extraterrestrial invasion; the player charged by a coalition of nations with their removal. The player must: capture and research alien technology, manage personnel, maintain military installations, combat hostile aliens on the ground and manage relations with the member nations. Inspiration taken from the TV series UFO, and Timothy Good’s book Alien Liaison.[1]
The X-COM series included the following games:
- UFO: Enemy Unknown (1994)
- X-COM: Terror from the Deep (1995)
- X-COM: Apocalypse (1997)
- X-COM: Interceptor (1998)
- X-COM: Enforcer (2001)

I have a lot of problems with the direction this game has gone in. I don’t think that turning it into a shooter was a very good idea but I can at least understand why they would try it. Personally I think that setting the game in the 1950′s is a much bigger problem.
In the original X-Com you have a geoscape. Aliens are landing everywhere and you literally have to protect the WORLD from invasion. The stakes are that high and the threat is that big. Now with this new game set in the 50′s, there’s no way this is gonna be a global clean up.
Even if there are attacks worldwide, this is gonna be a stateside game. Also there was no denying the attacks or the existence of aliens in the original X-com I believe. In the new game, I doubt the alien threat will be common knowledge or even that there are aliens. So you have Transformers (Michael Bay) level cover ups going on. Finally, from everything that’s been shown, your agents are going to be running around in suits most of the game.
This makes most of the attacks directed at you seem like overkill. The Obelisk blasting that agent in the original trailer looked cool but was way more effort than needed.
This dude fairly much sums up most peoples feelings on the new XCOM 2011, very fuinny, and sad.
