Gran Tourismo 5 Impressions

So obviously GT5 looks amazing, photo realistic from outside the car, but once again I feel its missing some of the impact when youre behind the wheel.

Gameplay

There is plenty of good stuff, but also a lot of flaws for a high profile game such as this. My personal problem was that most of the good stuff is carried over from GT4/GT5P and there wasn’t enough new stuff. Just about every new/good feature has a but attached to it. It has online, but it’s not implemented very well (at the moment), it has 200 premium cars, but also 800 cars with no interior view, etc etc.

Multiplayer

As a public game, though, GT5 needs a lot of work. There’s no matchmaking at all, so you have to browse a list of rooms and pick one, or enter an alphanumeric code, as if you’re playing a PC game and it’s 1999. The netcode is unstable; after a long pause I started one race alone on the grid, with the rest of the field halfway around the track already.

Summary

For a game thats so long in the making its really incredible that the multiplayer is so poor, its also amazing to me that its being forgiven, and is getting 90% reviews all over the place, is it just hype?, I think so..

While a good and solid title, I just still can’t help but feel a little disappointed at the lack of progress. Some people are more than happy with more of the same, and that’s just fine. Im also all for, if something not broke, don’t fix it. But there are some elements of GT that have always been broken and should be fixed by now.
